Wisdom Works Has Named Two Wisdom Scholars

for the 2008-09 Academic Year

Meet Our Wisdom Scholars

Wisdom Works' Wisdom Scholars demonstrated their commitment to and passion for living the values and behaviors of sustainable 21st century leadership. In addition to their studies both of these exceptional emerging leaders stand out as committed to excellence in community stewardship, furthering their breadth of leadership and dedication to furthering values of sustainability. Wisdom Works provided both scholars with $2,000 toward their educational expenses and opportunities to engage with Wisdom Works' partners and staff through article reviews, dialogue and other continuing education opportunities.

The Wisdom Scholars are a part of the Emerging Leaders program at Wisdom Works. We believe that to manifest our mantra, healthy leader, healthy business, healthy world, we must engage the leaders of tomorrow who will need the skills of sustainable, integral and health-minded leadership in order to be outwardly effective and inwardly energized.

 

Casey Roe

American University, Washington, DC

Double Major: Environmental Studies & Political Science

Casey inspires all around her to truly live your passion and believe with fire in those famous words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Casey has contributed to building momentum toward greater sustainability of truly integral efforts on the campus of American University. She began her service as Policy Director for American University's campus sustainability organization, Eco-Sense. She has heralded change on her campus through campaigning for cleaner campus transportation, green offices through a sustainable office procurement policy and an eco-certification program. Casey currently serves as the Environment Director for American University's Student Government.

Casey's career goal is to direct emissions and conservation policy initiatives at a national non profit organization. Her long-term aspiration is to create and lead a non profit coalition of sustainable corporations to call for responsible regulatory environmental policies and promote green consumption.

Theresa Vertucci

Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, CO

Major: Business Administration with Finance emphasis

Theresa has demonstrated astute dedication to learning, leadership and integral business even prior to starting at Leeds School of Business. The summer before she began her undergraduate education she attended the Business Leadership Program designed for pre-college students who show significant promise in the study of business.

Since her freshman year Theresa has served as the research assistant for The Curriculum Emphasis on Social Responsibility. In addition, she has served as a teaching assistant for business classes focusing on social responsibility and moral courage. Theresa serves on the Campus Ethics Committee as the representative for Leeds, as well as being involved in a student roundtable called the Diverse Scholars Program, in which she is a peer mentor. For the past two summers she has served as a counselor for the pre-college Business Leadership program she attended prior to joining Leeds School of Business.

Theresa has a mature understanding of the importance of life work balance and the intimate relationship between personal and business sustainability. She is recognized as an inspirational and natural leader by her peers and professors. Theresa's real and abiding social conscience is poignant and stirring. Her sense of responsibility to all people of the world is apparent in her course work, her conversations and ambitions.
